IndiGo Lite Fare Adds Cabin-Bag-Only Option for India Flights

IndiGo Lite Fare Adds Cabin-Bag-Only Option for India Flights

July 2, 2026

IndiGo has introduced a new Lite fare for passengers who want to fly with cabin baggage only, adding a lower-priced economy option across the airline’s direct domestic and international network.

The fare opened for bookings on 1 July 2026 and is due to apply for travel from 15 July 2026, according to ETTravelWorld and Reuters. IndiGo’s own fare page describes Lite as its lowest-priced economy fare for customers travelling light, available through IndiGo’s direct booking channels.

How the Lite fare works

Lite tickets include one cabin bag of up to 7 kg. IndiGo specifies maximum cabin-bag dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25 cm, or 115 cm when length, width and height are added together. No free checked baggage is included.

The fare applies only to direct IndiGo-operated flights across domestic and international sectors. IndiGo’s published terms say it is not available on connecting flights, codeshare bookings, group bookings, unaccompanied minor bookings, infant travel, or special fare categories such as senior citizen, student and armed forces fares.

Seats are auto-assigned at no extra cost. Passengers who want a preferred seat, checked baggage, meals or priority services such as Fast Forward need to buy them separately, subject to availability and the airline’s current fees.

Planning baggage before the airport

The practical difference is checked baggage. A standard domestic IndiGo fare commonly includes 15 kg of checked baggage, but a Lite ticket does not. IndiGo says checked baggage can be added after booking, including up to 15 kg for domestic flights and up to 20 kg for international flights, with purchases available up to one hour before scheduled departure through its channels or at the airport check-in counter.

Arriving at the airport with checked baggage or an overweight cabin bag can add cost and time. IndiGo’s Lite fare terms state that passengers who exceed the permitted cabin allowance or bring checked baggage must pay applicable charges, and failure to pay may result in the passenger not being allowed to board.

IndiGo’s published fees page lists prepaid excess baggage and airport baggage rates, plus separate charges for seat selection and other add-ons. Travelers comparing fares should price the total trip, not only the headline base fare, especially on longer India itineraries, international legs, or trips that require a suitcase.

Who the fare is best suited for

The new option is most useful for short trips, weekend breaks and domestic hops where one cabin bag is enough. It may also suit international travelers using IndiGo for a separate, non-stop India sector after leaving larger luggage elsewhere.

It is less suitable for passengers booking multi-leg connections, carrying sports gear or gifts, travelling with children who need more luggage, or relying on a specific seat. Since Lite is limited to direct IndiGo-operated flights and cannot be upgraded to higher fare types through IndiGo’s website, app or 6Eskai after booking, fare conditions should be checked before payment.
