Jodhpur Airport in Rajasthan has opened a new terminal building, giving travelers arriving in the Blue City a larger and more modern gateway to western Rajasthan.
India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation said Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal on 4 July 2026. The facility was developed by the Airports Authority of India at a reported cost of ₹480 crore.
What changes at Jodhpur Airport
The new terminal covers 23,342 square metres and is designed for 1,500 passengers during peak hours and 20 lakh passengers a year. According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, it includes 20 check-in counters, advanced security screening, modern baggage handling facilities and six aerobridges.
The airport apron has also been expanded to accommodate 11 Airbus A321 aircraft and one ATR-72 aircraft, while city-side parking has space for around 320 cars. The previous terminal had an annual capacity of about 4 lakh passengers and had reached saturation after sustained traffic growth.
Better airport capacity for the Blue City
Jodhpur is one of Rajasthan’s main visitor hubs, with Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jaswant Thada and desert itineraries toward Osian, Jaisalmer and the Thar region all commonly accessed through the city. Air India’s airport information page lists Jodhpur Airport as a domestic airport operated by the Airports Authority of India and connected to the city by bus, taxi and rental cars.
The new terminal should make the airport easier to use during busy travel periods, especially when flights from major Indian cities arrive close together. More check-in counters, larger baggage infrastructure and aerobridges are practical improvements for domestic passengers who previously used a much smaller facility.
What travelers should still check
The inauguration confirms that the new terminal building is open, but passengers should still check their airline booking, terminal instructions and flight status before traveling. Jodhpur remains listed by Air India as a domestic airport, so most international visitors will continue to connect through larger Indian gateways such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or other hub airports before flying onward to Jodhpur.
Travelers should also allow normal buffer time for road transfers in Jodhpur, particularly around peak tourist season, weddings, festivals and major local events. The airport is close to the city, but arrival and departure arrangements can change as operations settle into the new building.
