Phuket Bus Terminal 2: travel guide (Bangkok, Krabi, Surat Thani, Koh Samui buses)

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Phuket Bus Terminal 2 (Bus Terminal 2, "BKS 2") is the main long-distance bus station on Phuket. Buses and minibuses to Bangkok, Surat Thani, Hat Yai, Chumphon, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Khao Sok and the bus-and-ferry combinations to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan leave from here, as does the daily Green Bus to Chiang Mai. It sits on Thepkasattri Road in Ratsada, about 4 km north of Phuket Town, so it is not a place you walk to from the old town. The older Bus Terminal 1 on Phang Nga Road in town is the one the airport bus uses, so check which terminal is printed on your ticket.

Location and how to get there

Terminal 2 is on Thepkasattri Road (the main road between Phuket Town and the Sarasin Bridge), in Ratsada subdistrict, Mueang Phuket district. The Department of Land Transport built it to relieve Terminal 1, which opened in 1971 with only 14 bays. Wikivoyage describes it as a large modern terminal about 4 km north of town.

  • Phuket Smart Bus Route 2: the official Phuket Smart Bus lists Bus Terminal 2, Bus Terminal 1, Phuket Town, Samkong, Kathu and Patong as the stops on this route. The timetable shows a flat fare of 50 THB from Bus Terminal 2 to Patong Beach. The last departure from Phuket Town to Patong is 20:00 and the last from Patong back to Phuket Town is 21:00 (Phuket Smart Bus timetable).
  • From the airport: the Phuket Smart Bus airport bus (Route 1) goes to the west-coast beaches, and a separate airport bus runs to Bus Terminal 1 in town, not to Terminal 2. From Terminal 1 you can continue by songthaew or taxi, or ride Route 2 to Terminal 2.
  • Between the two terminals: local songthaews (shared pickup trucks) connect them, according to Wikivoyage. Ask the driver or the information window for the current fare and the last departure.
  • Taxi, Grab and tuk-tuk: the usual choice with luggage. Agree on a price before you get in, or use a ride-hailing app. Wikivoyage warns that tuk-tuk drivers at the terminals sometimes claim the local bus has stopped running when it has not.

The terminal address is 17/157 Moo 1, Thepkasattri Road, Ratsada, Mueang Phuket, Phuket 83000. The station telephone number listed for the terminal is 076 373 193.

Operators and destinations

Several companies sell tickets from separate counters. Operators listed for the terminal include the state-owned Transport Co. (bus 999), Phantip, Raja Ferry Port (bus and ferry tickets), Nakhon Borikan, Sri Trang Tour, Lignite Tours, Sombat Tour and Rungkit Tour. Green Bus runs one daily bus between Chiang Mai (Arcade Terminal 3) and Phuket Terminal 2. Wikivoyage reports about 24 hours on the road and around 2,000 THB as of 2025.

Other routes from this terminal:

  • Phuket to Donsak: bus and ferry packages that connect with Raja Ferry at Donsak pier for Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.
  • Phuket to Krabi: minibuses leave roughly hourly from 06:30 to about 17:00 at around 245 to 320 THB, and take about 3 hours to the Krabi bus terminal, which is some 4 to 5 km north of Krabi Town (per Visit Thailand Today).
  • Khao Sok, Khao Lak and Phang Nga: regional buses and vans, most of them from Terminal 2. Some local van services may still use Terminal 1.

Coming the other way, buses from Chumphon, Hat Yai, Krabi, Surat Thani, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Chiang Mai normally arrive at Terminal 2.

Tickets and facilities

Buy tickets at the operator counters inside the terminal or online. Because each company has its own counter, compare departure times and bus classes at two or three of them when several run the same route. Online sellers such as BusOnlineTicket issue an e-ticket by email and let you pick a seat. Booking a day or more ahead is sensible for the overnight Bangkok buses and for bus and ferry combinations to the islands.

The terminal has toilets, food stalls and shops, an information point, waiting areas and car parking. Wikivoyage recommends picking up the free Phuket map at the information window before you leave the building.

Tips

  • Check the terminal name on your ticket. Terminal 2 handles most long-distance services, but the airport bus and some local vans use Terminal 1.
  • Last Smart Bus departures are in the evening (20:00 from Phuket Town to Patong). After that, plan on a taxi or Grab.
  • For beaches such as Kata or Karon, Terminal 2 is far from the sea. Budget extra time and money for the last leg, or take the Smart Bus to Patong and change there.
  • Pay only at the counters or through your online booking, and ignore touts who say your bus is full or cancelled.
