Jitra is a town in Kedah, north of Alor Setar on the road towards Changlun and the Thai border at Bukit Kayu Hitam. From Penang the practical way to get there is a direct coach from the mainland side of the state. There is no train: the KTM Komuter timetable for the Butterworth to Padang Besar line lists stops such as Alor Setar, Anak Bukit and Kodiang, but none at Jitra.[1]
Penang to Jitra by bus

From Penang Island to the coach
If you start on the island, cross to Butterworth first. The passenger ferry runs between Raja Tun Uda Terminal in George Town and Sultan Abdul Halim Terminal in Butterworth, leaving George Town from 07:00 to 23:30 every 20 to 30 minutes, and an adult fare is RM2.00.[4] Add this crossing and the walk to the coach bay to the ride time when you plan your day.
