Bali Makes Uluwatu Traffic Scheme Permanent for Pecatu Routes
Badung Regency has made its new traffic-flow scheme in the Pecatu-Uluwatu area of South Bali permanent after a one-month trial in June 2026.
The decision was agreed on 2 July 2026 by Badung’s Transportation Agency and the local Traffic and Road Transportation Forum after officials said the trial helped reduce congestion on the main access routes toward Uluwatu. The affected area includes roads used by visitors heading to Uluwatu Temple, cliffside beaches, villas, restaurants and other Bukit Peninsula destinations.
Where the changes apply
The permanent scheme focuses on six congestion-prone intersections in and around Pecatu, with priority points at the Jalan Toya Ning II–Jalan Raya Uluwatu intersection and the Jalan Baler Setra–Jalan Blimbing Sari intersection.
Under the confirmed arrangement, vehicles travelling from Jalan Raya Uluwatu may not turn directly onto Jalan Toya Ning II. Vehicles from Jalan Toya Ning II heading toward Jalan Raya Uluwatu may only turn left toward Pecatu and may not turn right toward Ungasan during the operating window from 17:00 to 22:00 WITA.
Vehicles from the Jalan Baler Setra–Jalan Blimbing Sari intersection are also barred from turning west toward Jalan Raya Uluwatu. Badung’s announcement says this applies to all vehicle types except motorcycles.
Officials also added a no-entry sign from Jalan Raya Uluwatu toward Gang Batu Nunggul. Unlike the evening restrictions, Badung says this specific no-entry rule is not tied to operating hours.
Planning trips to Uluwatu
Visitors using hired cars, taxis, scooters or private drivers should allow extra time in the late afternoon and evening, especially when travelling for sunset, dinner reservations or the Kecak performance at Uluwatu Temple. The 17:00–22:00 window overlaps with one of the busiest times for southbound sightseeing traffic and return journeys from the Bukit Peninsula.
Drivers may need to follow signed detours rather than relying only on habitual shortcuts or older route advice. Badung says transportation officers will remain stationed at several points during operating hours, including around Pecatu Village Office, Toya Ning, Nirmala and the Bali State Polytechnic intersection, in cooperation with local security and police.
Badung has said fines or ticketing for violations will be applied by police after a Badung Regent decree is issued as the legal basis. Until that decree is in place, travellers should still follow posted signs and officer instructions, as the traffic pattern itself has already been made permanent.
Longer-term road plans
The regency describes the current scheme as a short-term measure while it prepares longer-term road infrastructure, including a planned ring road intended to ease traffic pressure in the Uluwatu area. No firm opening date for that longer-term project was confirmed in the latest official notice.
The change is separate from existing goasia.cc coverage on Bali immigration checks, villa rental rules, event calendars and attraction fees. It is a local mobility update for one of South Bali’s most visited areas, with practical consequences for route planning and journey times.
