Wise QR Payments: Supported Networks Across Asia

Wise QR Payments: Supported Networks Across Asia

August 1, 2026

Wise customers travelling in parts of Asia can pay participating merchants by scanning supported local QR codes in the Wise app. The available network, the traveller's Wise-account registration country and, for some networks, whether they are abroad all determine whether a payment can be made.

Wise's Help Centre lists current QR-payment support but does not give a launch or rollout date for the feature. The information below was checked on 1 August 2026 and may change as networks and account-market availability expand.

How QR payments work in the Wise app

In the app, customers can open Scan from the Home tab, or use the QR icon in the Cards section. A supported merchant QR code can be scanned with the camera, imported from the phone gallery or uploaded from a document. For Alipay+ merchants, Wise also says customers can display their own QR code to the merchant.

The payment is taken from a currency balance in the Wise account. Before confirming, travellers should check the merchant name, amount, currency and any fee displayed in the app. QR availability does not replace the need for a backup payment card or some cash, particularly away from larger centres or where a merchant does not accept the listed network.

Check the Alipay+ restriction before you leave

The same travel-outside-home-country rule applies to Alipay+ itself and to the local networks marked as powered by Alipay+, including GCash QR, KHQR, Lanka QR, NETS QR, Alipay HK QR, KakaoPay QR and NepalPay QR. A Wise customer with an account registered in Malaysia, for example, cannot use those Alipay+-powered QR codes while in Malaysia under Wise's stated rule.

DuitNow QR is listed separately from the Alipay+-powered networks. Wise says it is available in Malaysia to all customers apart from those registered in Israel. In the Philippines, QR Ph is also listed for all Wise customers, while GCash QR carries the narrower Alipay+ eligibility conditions.

Mainland China uses a separate route

Wise does not currently support scanning and paying China QR codes directly in the Wise app. Card holders can instead add their Wise card to Alipay or WeChat Pay after completing the respective app's registration and verification process, which may include passport verification. That is a card-payment workaround inside those local apps, not Wise-app QR support.

Travellers should complete any app registration before relying on it at a shop counter, and keep another accepted payment method available in case verification, card linking or merchant acceptance does not work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can every Wise customer use DuitNow QR in Malaysia?

Wise lists DuitNow QR for all Wise customers except customers whose Wise account is registered in Israel. Customers should still review the payment details and any fee shown in the app before confirming.

Can I use Wise to scan KHQR in Cambodia or Lanka QR in Sri Lanka?

Wise lists both networks as powered by Alipay+. They are available only to eligible Wise customers from the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Brazil while travelling outside the country where their Wise account is registered.

Does Wise support QR-code payments in mainland China?

Not directly in the Wise app. Wise says card holders can add their Wise card to Alipay or WeChat Pay after the relevant app's registration and verification process, then pay through that app.

What are the PayNow QR limits for non-Singapore customers?

Wise states a limit of S$1,000 per transaction for all customers and S$20,000 per calendar year for customers outside Singapore. For those customers, PayNow QR is limited to business payments rather than personal transfers.
