Pak Bara is the pier town in Satun province from which boats leave for Ko Tarutao and Ko Lipe, so most people who travel from Hat Yai to Pak Bara continue by boat.[1] The road trip is short, and vans are the standard way to do it.
Hat Yai to Pak Bara by Van
Booking platforms list regional 14-seat vans, standard vans and VIP vans from Hat Yai. A seat costs about $6 to $10 and the journey takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the departure point and the number of stops (October 2026). Tips for Traveling from Hat Yai to Pak Bara
- Check the boat season: Heavy rain falls on the west coast of southern Thailand from May to October, and boat travel off Satun is dangerous in those months. Island national parks including Ko Tarutao close every year from 16 May to 15 November.[1]
- Time your van to the boat: If you are connecting to a speedboat, choose a van that arrives well before the boat leaves.
- Luggage: Vans have limited space, so tell the operator in advance if you carry oversized items.
