Chongqing to Zhangjiajie by Train
Since the Chongqing-Qianjiang section of the Chongqing-Xiamen high-speed railway opened in June 2025, high-speed trains run directly between the two cities. Many leave from Chongqing East station and arrive at Zhangjiajie West, the usual station for the Wulingyuan Scenic Area.[1] Trains run from early morning to evening, and the ride takes from about 2 hours, longer on services with more stops.[2]
Seating Classes
Most trains offer Second Class Seats, the standard and most popular option, and many also have First Class Seats with wider chairs and more space. A few services add Business Class. On booking platforms, tickets start at about $34 for second class and the most expensive seats cost about $109 (October 2026).[2]
Tips for Traveling from Chongqing to Zhangjiajie
- Book in advance: This is a popular route for domestic and international travelers, and seats can sell out on weekends and public holidays.
- Check the station: Chongqing has several large railway stations. Look at your ticket to see whether your train leaves from Chongqing East or another station, and arrive early to get through the security check.
- Passport: Bring the passport you used to book, because your e-ticket is linked to it and you need it to enter the station.
- Arrival in Zhangjiajie: From Zhangjiajie West, take a taxi or local bus to Wulingyuan or to the downtown area near Tianmen Mountain.
