Kuala Lumpur–Busan Flights Return as Malaysia Airlines Adds Asia Capacity

Malaysia Airlines will resume direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Busan from 2 December 2026, reopening a non-stop link to South Korea’s second-largest city. The service is scheduled to operate four times a week, giving travellers in Malaysia another direct option for reaching South Korea beyond Seoul.

The airline says the Kuala Lumpur–Busan route will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Malaysia Airlines last operated the route between 1996 and 1998. Its current Busan booking page lists travel from 2 December onwards, while the airline advises passengers to check the live schedule and fare conditions before booking.

More seats to Fukuoka and Surabaya

The Busan return is part of a wider capacity increase by Malaysia Airlines. Flights from Kuala Lumpur to Fukuoka, Japan, are due to rise from five weekly services to daily flights from 1 December 2026. The airline resumed the Fukuoka route on 2 September and says it remains the only carrier operating non-stop flights between Kuala Lumpur and Fukuoka.

Services to Surabaya in East Java are also set to increase from 14 to 16 flights a week from 1 November 2026. The added frequencies may be useful for travellers building a short Indonesia stop into a Malaysia itinerary, although flight times and available days can vary by booking period.

Kunming route announced, but not yet on sale

Malaysia Aviation Group has separately announced that its Firefly subsidiary plans to launch direct Kuala Lumpur–Kunming services using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The group has not yet published a commencement date or ticket-sale details. Travellers considering Yunnan should therefore treat the route as announced rather than confirmed for a particular travel date until Firefly releases its timetable.

For visitors using Kuala Lumpur as a regional flight hub, the changes expand the number of direct onward options in Northeast and Southeast Asia. Connections, baggage arrangements and entry requirements remain dependent on the ticket booked and the destination; travellers should check these details with the operating airline before finalising multi-city plans.
