Da Nang to Hue Train
Thống Nhất (SE) trains take 2 hours 28 minutes to 3 hours 11 minutes; two heritage trains each way cross the Hải Vân Pass.
Take a Thống Nhất (Reunification Express) train for the quickest ride: Da Nang to Hue takes between 2 hours 28 minutes and 3 hours 11 minutes, depending on the train.[1] Take one of the HĐ heritage trains if you want the coast and the Hải Vân Pass as the point of the trip; the operator puts the journey at about three hours.[2]
The two cities are 103 kilometres apart on the North-South line.[1] Vietnam Railways' timetable lookup shows five long-distance trains in each direction that call at both cities (SE1 to SE10).[1]

Which train to take
Most Thống Nhất trains pass through at night or early in the morning. Those that run in daylight are SE10 (Da Nang 08:59), SE4 (12:28) and SE2 (13:21) towards Hue, and SE3 (Hue 07:55) and SE1 (10:30) towards Da Nang.[1] Choose one of these to see the coast and mountains. SE6 leaves Da Nang at 02:01 and SE8 at 23:41, so they only suit you if you need a night departure.
The heritage trains run twice a day each way: HĐ1 and HĐ3 from Hue, HĐ2 and HĐ4 from Da Nang. They call at Lăng Cô.[3] Departures on the operator's heritage page are HĐ2 07:05 and HĐ4 15:20 from Da Nang, and HĐ1 07:05 and HĐ3 14:30 from Hue.[2]
Classes and fares
The Thống Nhất trains sell air-conditioned soft seats and berths in 6-berth, 4-berth and 2-berth compartments. For a ride of under three hours, a soft seat is the sensible choice. On the SE1 fare lookup, a soft seat from Hue to Da Nang costs 145,000 to 161,000 dong, a berth in a 6-berth compartment 196,000 to 260,000 dong, a berth in a 4-berth compartment 244,000 to 280,000 dong, and a 2-berth cabin 393,000 dong, or 560,000 dong in the VIP version.[4] Fares differ by train and date.
Tickets bought less than 48 hours before departure cost 7% more on journeys under 1,000 kilometres. Children under 6 travel free if they share an adult's seat, one child per adult.[5]
How to book
Tickets are sold on dsvn.vn, at stations and official ticket offices, through authorised agents, and in e-wallets and banking apps such as MoMo, VNPay, ShopeePay and ZaloPay.[5] The railway also has its own app for iOS and Android.[6]
If you bought online with an email address, you can request a refund on dsvn.vn or at any station. Refunds on individual tickets cost 10% of the fare more than 24 hours before departure and 20% from 4 to 24 hours before; inside 4 hours there is no refund. Exchanging a ticket costs 20,000 dong and must happen at least 24 hours before departure, at a station with the original ID document.[5]
Stations
Hue is at kilometre 688 and Da Nang at kilometre 791 on the line from Hanoi.[1] Thống Nhất trains wait 15 to 20 minutes at Da Nang, so a train that arrives there at 13:14 leaves at 13:29.[1]
Scenery on the Hải Vân Pass
The operator describes the heritage route as crossing the Hải Vân Pass, with the Trường Sơn mountains on one side and the sea on the other.[2] When the service launched in 2024, each train had five air-conditioned soft-seat coaches and one community coach for cultural and food programmes, and stopped at Lăng Cô station for about 10 minutes so passengers could take photos.[7]
