Kawasan Falls, Cebu: Access, Canyoneering, and How to Plan
Contents
Kawasan Falls is in Badian, a first-class municipality in southern Cebu famous for its natural wonders, waterfalls and adventure tourism. It is best known for Kawasan Falls and for canyoneering, trekking and river adventures.[1] Badian lies about 100 kilometers southwest of Cebu City, reached by the Cebu South Coastal Highway, and sits close to other southern Cebu towns, which makes it work as a day trip or as part of a longer stay.[1] Decide first whether you want the falls or the canyon, because they are two different outings.
Choose Between the Falls and Canyoneering
The provincial tourism office lists Kawasan Falls for swimming and hiking and canyoneering as a separate attraction.[1] Other highlights in Badian include Osmeña Peak and Kandungaw Peak for hiking, Lambug Beach for island hopping and snorkeling, and paragliding. Try the local Kawasan Donut, a soft donut with molten chocolate inside.[1]
Canyoneering and trekking at Kawasan Falls are managed under stricter eco-guidelines that protect its turquoise water.[2] Listen to the local briefing and follow the posted instructions at each stop.

Getting There from Cebu City
By bus
From the Cebu South Bus Terminal, take a bus bound for Badian, Alegria, Malabuyoc, Ginatilan, Samboan or Santander via the western coastal route. The ride takes approximately 3 to 4 hours.[1] Tell the conductor you are going to Badian, then arrange the last stretch from town to the falls or to your canyoneering meeting point.
By private vehicle
Drive south from Cebu City on the Cebu South Road through Carcar City, Barili, Dumanjug, Ronda and Moalboal before reaching Badian. The drive takes approximately 3 hours, depending on traffic.[1] Leave extra time after heavy rain.
When to Plan Your Visit
December to May is the dry season and ideal for canyoneering, trekking and waterfall activities. June to November is the wet season, and heavy rain may affect outdoor and river-based activities.[1] Check the weather and follow any suspension notice before you set out.
Confirm Access and Fees Locally
The Badian Tourism Office can tell you what is open, where to register or book, and what each charge covers. You can reach it at +63 965 957 1349 or [email protected].[1] Ask for the full price breakdown: whether quoted amounts are per person or per group, and whether transport, guide services and protective equipment are included.
Practical Planning Notes
- Decide whether you want the waterfall, a canyoneering trip or both, then confirm that exact activity and its starting point with the local office.
- Build a buffer into the journey from Cebu City, because the published times do not include local transfers or waiting.
- Postpone river activities if authorities or operators suspend them.
