Chongqing and Beijing are linked by direct high-speed trains and by flights. The fastest G trains take about 7 hours,[1] so many travelers fly, while others prefer the train because it runs from city station to city station without airport transfers.

Chongqing to Beijing by Train

China Railway's ticket search listed 14 trains from Chongqing to Beijing for 18 October 2026. They leave from Chongqing North or Chongqing West and arrive at Beijing West or Beijing Fengtai.[1] Timetables change, so check the date you plan to travel on 12306.

High Speed G Trains

The fastest services are the G trains from Chongqing North to Beijing West: G330 leaves at 07:21 and arrives at 14:31 (7h10), and G332 leaves at 14:33 and arrives at 21:44 (7h11). G1016 takes 7h57 from Chongqing North (11:10 to 19:07) and 8h30 from Chongqing West (10:37 to 19:07), and G1150 takes 8h49 (08:15 to 17:04).[1]

Sleeper Trains

D50 leaves Chongqing North at 15:50 and reaches Beijing West at 10:07 the next morning (18h17), D4 leaves at 16:07 and arrives at 10:13 (18h06), and D96 leaves at 16:28 and arrives at 10:38 (18h10). D998 leaves Chongqing West at 17:59 and arrives at Beijing Fengtai at 06:55 (12h56). The conventional T10 (09:26 to 11:33 the next day, 26h07) and K508 (20:14 to 21:38 the next day, 25h24) take more than a day.[1]

Chongqing to Beijing by Flight

Several airlines fly between Chongqing and Beijing, so compare schedules and fares on the airline websites. The flight is shorter in the air, but you add the transfers to and from the airports, check-in, security and baggage claim at both ends.

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is served by Metro Line 3 (Terminal 2) and by Line 10, which runs between Terminal 3 and Terminal 2. Both lines run from 06:30 to 22:30.[2] Beijing has two airports, Capital (PEK) and Daxing (PKX). Daxing lies 46 km south of Tiananmen Square.[3] Capital Airport has airport express lines, airport buses and car-hailing services to the city.[4] Check which airport your ticket uses before you plan the transfer.

Which Option Should You Choose?

Take a G train if you prefer to avoid airport procedures and are staying near a railway station. Fly if the airports suit your hotels at both ends or if you connect to another flight. A sleeper train only makes sense if the night on board replaces a hotel stay.

Tips for Traveling from Chongqing to Beijing

  • Check the stations. Trains arrive at Beijing West or Beijing Fengtai, and Beijing has several major stations that are not interchangeable.[1]
  • Booking: 12306 sells tickets 15 days ahead, and for travel after 30 December the sales period is 30 days.[1] Tickets sell out quickly around the Spring Festival and National Day holidays.
  • Passport: Foreign travelers can buy real-name tickets with a valid passport and must show the same document to enter the station and board.[5]
