Last updated: October 21, 2026
Bus terminal 🇻🇳 Vietnam Hanoi

Giap Bat Bus Station (Bến xe Giáp Bát), also called the Southern Bus Station, is Hanoi's main coach terminal for the south. Coaches to Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong and the long-distance services to Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City leave from here.[1] Services to Ha Giang, Dien Bien and the north-west use My Dinh Bus Station on the other side of the city.

The station belongs to Hanoi Bus Station JSC (Bến xe Hà Nội, HNB). It has been operating since 1989, covers 3.7 hectares and is one of the oldest and largest stations in Hanoi.[1]

Location and how to get there

The address is Km6, Giai Phong Road, Hoang Mai Ward, in the south of Hanoi. The official hotline is 1900 1825 (press 2).[1]

Several city buses start here, which makes it easy to reach from other parts of town without a taxi. In total 29 city and suburban routes serve the station.[1] Examples:

  • Route 03A: Giap Bat to Gia Lam station, 05:03 to 21:00, VND 10,000.[2]
  • Route 32: Giap Bat to Nhon, 05:00 to 22:30, VND 10,000.[2]
  • Route 21A: Giap Bat to Yen Nghia station, 05:00 to 21:00, VND 10,000.[2]
  • Route E06: electric VinBus to Smart City, from 05:00 until 21:30 to 22:30, VND 7,000 to 10,000.[1][2]
  • Suburban routes: 101A to Van Dinh, 94 to Kim Bai, 203 to Bac Giang station, 206 to Phu Ly station and 208 or 209 to Hung Yen, at fares from VND 8,000 to 40,000.[1]

From the Old Quarter, a taxi or ride-hailing app is the simplest option.

Operators and destinations

Giap Bat connects to 18 provinces by the old boundaries: Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Hoa Binh, Da Nang, Buon Ma Thuot (Dak Lak), Gia Lai and Ho Chi Minh City. After the 2025 mergers, destinations such as Ha Nam and Nam Dinh appear under Ninh Binh, and Thai Binh under Hung Yen, so tickets may show the new province name.[1]

The clearest example of a coach service with operator, counter, bay and fare is the Hai Phong service to Thuong Ly:

Other destinations include Ninh Binh and its surrounding towns, Nam Dinh, many Thanh Hoa towns (including Sam Son and Nghi Son), Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Quang Ninh (Cam Pha, Mong Cai), Lang Son (Dong Dang), Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Da Nang and Tay Ninh.[1] Use these GoAsia route pages for the trips that start here:

Tickets and facilities

As a class 1 station Giap Bat has ticket counters, a waiting area, passenger pickup and parking areas, toilets, a commercial area, electronic information boards and a public address system.[1] Tickets are sold at the counters, by phone on 1900 1825 (press 2) and through operators' own websites. Email contact is [email protected].[1]

Long-distance coaches to Da Nang, Buon Ma Thuot, Gia Lai and Ho Chi Minh City use the same station, so the long journeys south start here rather than at My Dinh.[1]

Tips

  • Check the departure station on your ticket. Hanoi has several coach stations, and operators often use more than one.
  • Arrive well before departure. Near public holidays the station is crowded and traffic on Giai Phong is slow.
  • The Hai Phong service has ten departures between 09:40 and 17:50, so you can usually turn up and buy a ticket at counter 13.[1]
  • Day trips to Ninh Binh are possible by coach, but check the return times before you go.
