A train also runs from Chengdu to Lhasa. Tips for Traveling from Chengdu to Lhasa
Foreign visitors need a special permit for Tibet on top of the Chinese visa. A travel agency in China arranges it, and you should have it with you when you check in for your flight or train.
- Acclimatization: Lhasa sits on the Tibetan plateau, far higher than Chengdu, and flying in puts you at risk of acute mountain sickness. Rest when you arrive, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol for the first days.
- Airport choice: Check which airport your flight leaves from. Tianfu is much further from the center of Chengdu than Shuangliu.
