Malang to Jakarta by Train
KAI's Gajayana connects Malang with Jakarta Gambir through Kepanjen, Blitar, Tulungagung, Kediri, Madiun, Solo, Yogyakarta, Purwokerto and Cirebon.[1] It is an overnight journey: the extra Gajayana services that KAI ran over the 2025/26 year-end holidays were scheduled from 18:25 to 08:12 from Malang, and from 00:10 to 13:50 from Gambir, which is a journey of about 13 hours 45 minutes.[2] KAI points travelers to its Access by KAI app for checking schedules and ticket availability.[1]
Booking platforms list several further train departures from Malang to Jakarta, with journey times of about 11.5 to 15 hours (October 2026).[3]
Malang to Jakarta by Flight
Citilink and Batik Air fly direct from Malang (MLG) to Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), and the non-stop flight takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes.[4] On the date we checked (October 2026), AirAsia's listing showed Citilink at 11:40 and Batik Air at 15:10.[4] Fares start at about IDR 935,000 (about $52), and the sample flights on that date cost IDR 1,400,000 and IDR 2,000,000.[4]
From Soekarno-Hatta, the airport train of KAI Commuter links the airport with Manggarai via Batu Ceper, Duri and Sudirman Baru, and the timetable lists about 45 minutes from the airport to Sudirman Baru.[5]
Malang to Jakarta by Bus
Buses run from Malang to Bekasi on the eastern edge of Jakarta, mostly in the afternoon.[3] Booking platforms list executive and VIP buses at about $21 to $26 with journey times of about 11 hours 45 minutes to 15 hours (October 2026).[3] No operator fare was available to us, so compare current prices before you book.
