Leaving the cool, mist-shrouded pine forests of the Central Highlands for the bustling, historic streets of the capital involves crossing nearly the entire length of Vietnam. It is a journey that takes you from the romantic, French-inspired architecture of Da Lat to the thousand-year-old soul of Hanoi, where ancient temples sit alongside vibrant street food markets.

Da Lat to Hanoi by Flight
Flying is the practical choice. Vietnam Airlines flies from Da Lat (Lien Khuong Airport, DLI) to Hanoi (Noi Bai, HAN) with one-way fares from VND 1,193,181.[1] The flight takes about 2 hours 5 minutes, with one or two flights a day.[2] Lien Khuong Airport is about 30 km from Da Lat city center, with taxi, motorbike and bus options.[2] Noi Bai is about 30 km from the center of Hanoi,[3] and airport taxis cost around VND 200,000 to 300,000 while the public bus costs around VND 8,000 to 40,000.[4]
Da Lat to Hanoi Overland
By road and rail you have to split the trip. FUTA Bus Lines lists Da Lat to Da Nang at 700 km and about 14 hours.[5] From Da Nang you can fly to Hanoi (Vietnam Airlines, about 1 hour 20 minutes, fares from VND 998,181)[4] or take the Reunification Express, which Vietnam Airlines gives as 12 to 18 hours between Hanoi and Da Nang or Hue.[6] Plan at least a full day and a night for the overland route.
Tips for Traveling from Da Lat to Hanoi
- Book in Advance: Especially during peak holiday seasons like Tet (Lunar New Year), flights between these hubs can sell out well ahead of time.
- Prepare for Temperature Changes: Da Lat is significantly cooler than Hanoi for much of the year. Keep a light jacket accessible, especially if you travel in the northern winter when Hanoi can be quite chilly.
- Verify Locations: Hanoi is sprawling, so make sure you have the exact address of your hotel in the Old Quarter or West Lake when you take a taxi from the airport.
