Donsak (Don Sak) is where the mainland meets the islands: the ferry hub in Surat Thani Province for Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. It is not one pier but several, each run by its own company: Raja Ferry (cars and passengers to Lipa Noi on Koh Samui and Thong Sala on Koh Phangan)[1], Seatran Ferry (to Nathon on Koh Samui and Thong Sala)[2], Lomprayah (catamarans to Nathon, Thong Sala and Koh Tao)[3], plus Songserm and Boonsiri Sealine.[4] Your ticket decides which pier you need, so know your operator before you climb into a bus or taxi.
Location and how to get there
Donsak is a district on the Gulf of Thailand coast of Surat Thani Province. Raja Ferry's headquarters and pier are at 25/1 Moo 8, Mittraphap Road, Don Sak.[5] Seatran built its own port in Bang Nam Jued in Donsak district, and the crossing to Nathon pier is about 15 nautical miles (25.5 km). Seatran, Boonsiri and Lomprayah (Laem Tuad pier) each have a separate Donsak pier.[4] Ask which one your ticket uses before you set off.
- From Surat Thani town: Combined bus and ferry tickets run from the town, the railway station and the airport to the Donsak piers. Lomprayah and Seatran both sell them.[3][2]
- From further away: Seatran Discovery sells bus and ferry combinations from places such as Krabi, Phuket, Chumphon, Hua Hin and Bangkok.[4] The ticket tells you which company's pier the bus drops you at.
- Seatran Coach: Seatran runs coach connections from Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat that link with its ferry to Koh Samui.[2]
- By boat: ferries and catamarans from Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao end at Donsak.

Tips
- Match your bus to your ferry company. Tell the driver or booking agent which pier you need, because Raja, Seatran, Boonsiri and Lomprayah each have their own.[5][4]
- Lomprayah leaves Donsak twice a day, at 11:00 and 15:00.[3] Raja sails every hour, so it is your fallback if you miss a catamaran.[1]
- Raja adds boats in the morning (05:00 to 06:00) and afternoon (12:00 to 16:00) peaks.[1] With a vehicle in the high season, come early.
- For Koh Tao, Lomprayah sells Donsak to Mae Haad as a single ticket, so you do not have to hop via Koh Phangan or Koh Samui.[3]
- If you arrive by train or plane, buy a through-ticket that includes the bus transfer to your pier. It saves you a taxi negotiation at the pier.
